7/16: Ryan turned in his Nomination Papers after walking the Town and obtained 77 signatures, "I want to thank everyone I met for signing my papers and discussing the future of our town. My hope is that we can work together to get things moving again."
7/13: The Narragansett Democratic Towns Committee official endorsed Ryan as a candidate for Town Council, "Thank you to the committee and fellow Democrats for endorsing me and hopefully we can bring a little imagination to the town government."
Two
years ago, I had the opportunity and honor in
running for State Representative of District Thirty-Four seat and though I was
defeated in the primary, the experience was like no other. As a a
resident of Narragansett whose family has lived here for generations, graduate
of our local schools, and hold the values of dedication and commitment, I am
announcing my candidacy for Narragansett Town Council.
I
believe we need to commit ourselves to getting this town moving again in the
right direction. We must pursue policies aimed at enhancing the towns’
environmental impact. There are workable solutions available that will enhance
the town’s green score and encourage people to do all they can to improve the
environment on two fronts. First, promote lifestyles that improve health,
wealth, and the environment amongst the populace. For instance, a household can
save just over $2,000 a year with reusable water bottles and water filters
instead of plastic bottles. Furthermore, reducing plastic bottle consumption
will save on waste and reduce the continual expansion of landfills.
Second,
while the government may promote eco-friendly initiatives it must also be
responsible for following in similar fashion. I support a more eco-friendly
Town Hall and other government facilities. We can yield a more abundant future
in being environmentally conscience and invest in alternative energies that are
from Earth, for Earth. Protecting our woodland areas and animals can be done
through wildlife-protected zones and nature paths. These features are already
elements of towns surrounding ours; however, more can be done to enhance these
preserves in our own town. Additionally, protecting the dunes of the beach is
vital to the integrity of our beautiful shoreline. When it comes to matters of
the environment, we are in this together.
A
key aspect of my campaign is inspired by a quote from Robert Kennedy, which
states, “it is not enough to understand, or to see clearly. The future will be
shaped in the arena of human activity, by those willing to commit their minds
and their bodies to the task.” The principle of community involvement has been
part of my life as introduced through childhood heroes and family. I will do
the very best job I can to make sure that these principles are a guiding factor
in my duties on the Town Council. I ask for your help and support in this
endeavor and to placing our town back on track.

How You Can Help
Two years ago it was an honor to
have the opportunity and experience in running for State Representative
of
District Thirty-Four. Once again I seek to represent the people of
Narragansett
in the Town Council and with it a different path for the future.
In the next six months the campaign
season will be in full swing and once again I am asking for your support
and
help. Mailings, yard signs, bumper stickers, buttons, ads, and ground
work are
all fundamentals to making a campaign strong and effective. However, all
of
this cannot be achieved without the support of the people and their
willingness
to commit their time; this of all is the greatest asset. Volunteering
can make
the difference in a successful grassroots organization and campaign.
Please,
donate your time with spreading the word,
asking for yard signs, or posting
info in your business.
Narragansett should be proud of how
far it has come because of our beaches, parks, and schools. Also, we
should
acknowledge our new Town Manager and the vision he has for the future of
the
Town and I look forward to the chance of working alongside him. However,
with
all our vast success there is still much work to be done with regards to
financial security, the environment, parking, our history, and business
promotion.
Please contribute to the campaign
with what you can because every little bit counts and is extremely
beneficial. Whether
it be $10, $50, or $100 it will make a
great difference in getting our message
out there.
3/30: Please be advised that Narragansett and most the state
are in a Flood Warning. Only go out if necessary and contact local
emergency units in case of emergency. Take a look at the flooding in
Town this far.
3/17: Had an interview with URI's Good
Five Cent and it will appear in tomorrows edition. We thank the Cigar
for giving Ryan the opportunity to voice his opinions regarding the
campaign
3/12: Take a look at the Issues page
to know what Ryan regards important and solutions
3/11: Candidacy
announced to the Narragansett Towns Committee
Volunteers needed for the campaign over the
summer and beginning of fall.
3/10: Attended the URI Student Senate
meeting and announced candidacy for Narragansett Town Council. The
Senate was very warm in receiving Ryan's announcement and he is grateful
for them allowing him to speak and looks forward to working with them
in the future.
3/9: Editorial discussing the impact of the Recovery Act thus far and what is in store for
the future.
3/8: Attend the Organizing for
America strategy meeting at the library, there are many great things
in store for Rhode Island and the movement for health care reform.
There is a great chance for hope in the future due to organizations like
this.
